Robert Clark is artist in residence in Dance 4, the National Dance Agency based in Nottingham. He is a well known contemporary dance performer, choreographer and teacher working across Europe and North America. He has been the recipient of numerous awards including the Simone Michelle Choreography Prize from Laban (2003) and received a Dance U.K Choreographic Observership to work with Siobhan Davies (2004) Robert’s choreography has been performed in festivals and venues in London, Berlin, Venice, Mulhouse, Ravena, Nottingham, Bouxwiller and Bassano, including Tanztage 08, Nottdance 09, Bmotion 2010, Touch Wood 09 & 11, Springloaded 2012 and Pulse 2012. Recent commissions include works on London Contemporary Dance School, University of Bedfordshire and Northampton University. Since 2010 Robert has been an associate artist with Dance 4, the National Dance Agency based in Nottingham, England. As a freelance performer Robert has worked with companies including Sasha Waltz and Guests, Cie Felix Ruckert, Hans van den Broek/Cie Soit, Le Grand Jeu/Louis Zeigler, Vincent Dance Theatre, Charles Linehan Dance Company, Lisa Torun Dance Company, Barebones (Rui Horta and Garry Stewart/Australian Dance Theatre), Ben Wright’s Bgroup, Aletta Collins, Laila Diallo, IGLOO, Ben Ash and Troika Ranch amongst others. Robert's workshops will focus on two propositions initiated by Robert's current creative investigations as a choreographer. The first area of interest and research will centre on how our expectations and comfort with the power hierarchies that can exist within creative practice and the theatre experience can be utylised when framed through honesty and/or fantasy. How we locate ourselves in relation to these themes and what we can/choose to say from that place of "awareness" will be explored with an open ended outcome. A second strand of research will expand on Robert's perception that many people (himself included) and indeed much art practice seems to focus on the negative aspects of existence and that work which is un-appologetically positive whilst remaining intelligent is not only rare but possibly valuable.
Roberto Olivan/ Enclave Arts del Moviment
Spanish by origin, he studied at the Institut del Teatre in Barcelona and P.A.R.T.S. (Performing Arts Research and Training Studios) in Belgium. Roberto performed under the direction of renowned directors such as Robert Wilson, Anne Teresa de Keersmaeker, Josse de Pauw or Tom Jansen. In 2001 he formed his own company, the ENCLAVE ARTS DEL MOVIMENT to continue his research in the arts of movement. ENCLAVE produced among others “Natural Strange Days” (SACD prize in Belgium in 2001), the acclaimed “Homeland”, “De Farra” and “Mermaid’s Call”, his latest production. Since the very beginning, what is reflected in the creations of Roberto Olivan is its singular vision of dance and the need to establish a dialogue with other artistic disciplines (…) ” Roberto Olivan is the Catalan choreographer and Director of ENCLAVE Dance Company. He lives and works predominantly in the disparate cities of Brussels and Barcelona. Olivan’s work manages to bind together these seemingly opposing influences, using a mix of artistic languages to create primeval, organic physical theatre full of wonderful contradictions. It is rooted firmly in his own origins and experience, and coloured by those of the performers with whom he creates. Although well educated in many forms, in the art of control and precision, Olivan works not with the intellect, the head, but with emotion, physicality and love. He seeks to make his work accessible to audiences, combining the power and energy of circus with the harsh reality of the world in which we live. The result is a genuinely stimulating celebration, fantastical yet somehow heartfelt and down to earth" (J. Noguero, Transversal). He has created works for the National University of Seoul South Korea (KNUA), the Ensemble Walpurgis in Belgium, Vertigo Dance of Israel, the Iceland Dance Company, Galician Choreographic Centre, ESAC, and co-productions from CAER and Mercat de les Flors in Barcelona. He is also de artistic director of FESTIVAL DELTREBE DANSA, created in 2004. Roberto’s workshop will focus on his evolving method of ‘Instinct as a source of motion " based on speed and accuracy. The workshop explores how the body becomes a source of emotions and images that need to be shaped through a creative process without losing their original intensity.

Kiriakos Spirou, returns to the Lab to contribute to issues of interdisciplinary practice, in particular his unique understanding of the relationship between sound/body- music/choreography. Τα εργαστήρια του Robert για τον Κινητήρα θα εστιάσουν πάνω σε δυο προτάσεις που έχουν την αφετηρία τους στις τρέχουσες δημιουργικές διερευνήσεις του σαν χορογράφος. Ο πρώτος τομέας ενδιαφέροντος και έρευνας θα επικεντρωθεί στο πως οι προσδοκίες μας και η σχέση άνεσης που έχουμε με την ιεραρχική εξουσία που εκάστοτε εντοπίζεται μέσα στη δημιουργική πρακτική και την θεατρική εμπειρία μπορούν να μας φανούν χρήσιμα, εαν οριστούν με ειλικρίνεια και/ή φαντασία. Το πως τοποθετούμε τους εαυτούς μας σε σχέση με αυτές τις θεματικές και τι επιλέγουμε ή μπορούμε να επιλέξουμε ως απάντηση, έχοντας πια αντίληψη της θέσης μας, θα εξερευνηθεί με ανοιχτό αποτέλεσμα. Μια δεύτερη κατεύθυνση της έρευνας θα επεκταθεί πάνω στην αντίληψη του Robert ότι πολλοί άνθρωποι(συμπεριλαμβανομένου και του ιδίου) και όντως πολλή καλλιτεχνική πρακτική φαίνεται να εστιάζει στις αρνητικές όψεις της ύπαρξης, και το έργο εκείνο που είναι ευθαρσώς θετικό αλλά ταυτόχρονα πνευματώδες δεν είναι απλά σπάνιο αλλά ενδεχομένως και πολύτιμο.

Kυριάκος Σπύρου: Ο Κυριάκος Σπύρου επιστρέφει στο Εργαστήριο για να συμβάλει σε θέματα διεπιστημονικής πρακτικής, ιδιαίτερα με την μοναδική του κατανόηση της σχέσης μεταξύ ήχου και σώματος, μουσικής και χορογραφίας. Ο Κυριάκος παρέχει επίσης τεχνική υποστήριξη στους συμμετέχοντες του Εργαστηρίου σε ζητήματα ήχου και καταγραφής της δουλειάς τους.
